Helpful information to guide you before your appointment

I want to fall pregnant, when should I first see a dietitian?

The ideal timeframe would be to see you at least three months before trying to conceive, so we can get you all nutriented-up (not a word but you get the gist) and in the best form you can can be health-wise prior to falling pregnant. This will both help with conception but also get your mind and body prepared for the nutritional requirements of pregnancy.

However, I would love to see you at any gestation! Even if things are going well, it’s worth checking in as your requirements can change at different stages of pregnancy. If you are having challenges with symptoms, pregnancy-related health risks, or want personalised advice on supplementation or just a check in to make sure you’re meeting all your requirements, come and see me.

This really depends on how things are going for you. If you aren’t experiencing any pregnancy-related symptoms or health risks, ideally at least twice per trimester. If you are experiencing these, or are struggling to meet your nutrient requirements, maintain your weight appropriately, bub isn’t growing as well as recommended, or are finding food challenging in general, we can see each other more regularly.
